Perinatal and Postpartum Mental Health Therapy

Support Through Pregnancy, Postpartum, and the Transition Into Parenthood

Pregnancy and early parenthood can bring joy, love, and meaningful change—but they can also feel overwhelming, isolating, and very different from what you expected.

You may be experiencing anxiety, sadness, irritability, intrusive thoughts, guilt, exhaustion, or a sense that you no longer recognize yourself. You may love your baby deeply while also struggling with the emotional and physical demands of this stage.

These feelings do not mean that you are failing as a parent. They mean that you deserve support.

At Rise & Restore Counseling, we provide compassionate, individualized therapy for clients navigating pregnancy, postpartum recovery, fertility challenges, pregnancy loss, and the many emotional changes that can come with becoming a parent.

You Do Not Have to Wait Until Things Feel Unmanageable

Some clients begin therapy because they are experiencing clear symptoms of postpartum anxiety or depression. Others simply feel overwhelmed, disconnected, emotionally depleted, or unsure how to adjust to their changing identity and responsibilities.

Therapy may be helpful if you are experiencing:

  • Anxiety, panic, or constant worry

  • Postpartum depression or persistent sadness

  • Intrusive, unwanted, or frightening thoughts

  • Irritability, anger, or emotional sensitivity

  • Difficulty bonding with your baby

  • Guilt, shame, or fears of not being a good parent

  • Sleep-related anxiety or exhaustion

  • Birth trauma or a difficult pregnancy

  • Relationship strain after becoming parents

  • Changes in identity, confidence, or body image

  • Difficulty asking for or accepting help

  • Stress related to returning to work

  • Infertility, miscarriage, or pregnancy loss

  • Anxiety during pregnancy or after a previous loss

You do not need a formal diagnosis or a crisis to begin therapy. If this season feels heavier than you expected, that is enough reason to reach out.

Therapy That Respects Your Experience and Your Choices

There is no single right way to experience pregnancy, birth, postpartum recovery, or parenthood. Your therapy should reflect your needs, values, circumstances, and goals.

Our clinicians work collaboratively with you rather than making decisions for you. You will be encouraged to ask questions, share what feels helpful or unhelpful, and participate actively in choosing the direction and pace of treatment.

Therapy may focus on helping you:

  • Understand and manage anxiety, sadness, or intrusive thoughts

  • Process a difficult birth or pregnancy experience

  • Strengthen coping and emotional regulation skills

  • Adjust to changes in identity and relationships

  • Set boundaries and communicate your needs

  • Reduce guilt, shame, and unrealistic expectations

  • Rebuild confidence and trust in yourself

  • Navigate returning to work or balancing multiple roles

  • Strengthen your support system

  • Feel more present and connected in your daily life

Treatment is personalized and may include evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, trauma-informed care, mindfulness, somatic strategies, and EMDR when appropriate.

Partners Can Be Included

Although many clients attend therapy individually, partners may participate when doing so supports your treatment goals.

Some clients choose to include a partner for an occasional session to improve communication, discuss changing roles, strengthen emotional support, or work through challenges related to pregnancy and parenthood.

You and your therapist will decide together whether partner participation would be helpful. It is always collaborative and is never required.

Babies Are Welcome

We understand that arranging childcare may not be realistic during the postpartum period.

Babies are welcome during virtual therapy sessions. You may feed, hold, soothe, or care for your baby during the appointment. You do not need to apologize for interruptions or create a perfectly quiet environment before receiving support.

Your therapist will work with the realities of this stage of life so that therapy feels accessible, flexible, and supportive.

Support for Infertility and Pregnancy Loss

We also provide therapy for infertility, miscarriage, pregnancy loss, and the emotional experience of trying to conceive.

These concerns may be addressed as part of perinatal care or as the primary reason for beginning therapy. You do not need to be currently pregnant or postpartum to seek support.

Therapy can provide space to process grief, anger, anxiety, uncertainty, relationship stress, changes in identity, and the loneliness that can come when others do not fully understand what you are carrying.

Support is available whether your experience is recent or something that continues to affect you over time.

Finding the Right Clinician

Our team includes clinicians with experience and specialized training in pregnancy, postpartum mental health, fertility challenges, pregnancy loss, trauma, anxiety, and major life transitions.

When you contact us, we will ask about your concerns, preferences, availability, and what you hope to gain from therapy. We will then help match you with the clinician whose experience and approach best align with your needs.

You are encouraged to ask questions about your therapist’s experience, treatment approach, and recommendations. Feeling comfortable with your clinician is an important part of the process.

Therapy as Part of Your Overall Care

Therapy can complement—but does not replace—care from your obstetrician, primary care provider, psychiatrist, midwife, or another qualified healthcare professional.

Because pregnancy and postpartum symptoms can involve both emotional and physical factors, we encourage clients to discuss significant changes with their medical providers. With your written permission, your therapist may also collaborate with members of your healthcare team when appropriate.

Medical professionals are welcome to refer patients who may benefit from additional emotional and behavioral health support.
