What Is EMDR Therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy designed to help the brain process distressing memories that may continue to impact your daily life.

Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR does not require you to repeatedly relive painful experiences. Instead, it helps your brain reprocess memories so they become less emotionally overwhelming and no longer feel like they are controlling your present.

EMDR may help reduce the intensity of symptoms such as anxiety, intrusive thoughts, emotional reactivity, and negative beliefs connected to painful experiences.

Sometimes painful experiences continue to affect us long after they've ended. You may find yourself feeling constantly anxious, overwhelmed, easily triggered, or stuck in patterns that no longer serve you. At Rise & Restore Counseling, we offer Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy to help individuals process distressing experiences, reduce emotional distress, and move forward with greater confidence and peace.

Can EMDR be done virtually?

Yes. Many clients successfully participate in EMDR through secure telehealth sessions.


Is EMDR covered by insurance?

Most insurance plans cover EMDR as part of individual psychotherapy when medically appropriate. We currently accept Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and UnitedHealthcare.
